Obama Administration HIV/AIDS Effort Targets Blacks

After leading the global effort to reduce HIV/AIDs, the federal government is finally directing more attention and financial resources to the epidemic at home by focusing on African-Americans, the group that bears the brunt of the disease, and aggressively enlisting the help of community-based groups.

Reclaiming Our Future... A Youth-Focused World AIDS Day 2008

December 7th marked the 2nd Annual World AIDS Program that collaborative partners A.C.C.E.P.T. and Greater Light Christian Center hosted.

This year the focus was on youth. Children, teenagers, and young adults danced, sang, acted, spoke, and volunteered their time in order to spread the word about HIV and STDs among their age groups.

Sherria Taylor, the Executive Director of A.C.C.E.P.T., called for the youth present to "Handle That" or let the HIV/AIDS epidemic "handle them."

Did you know that...
-The CDC estimates that almost 46,000 young people, ages 13 to 24, were living with HIV in the U.S in 2006
-African-American young adults account for 60% of HIV/AIDS diagnoses in 13- to 24-year-olds in 2006.
-More HIV infections occurred among adolescents and young adults 13–29 years old (34%) of new HIV infections than any other age group

It's time for our youth to Reclaim their Future... HIV doesn't have to happen to them, it can be stopped.

Below are some pictures from the program...enjoy... we sure did! See you next year!
